Until recently, the kingdom of Mustang was an inaccessible area. Even today, Upper Mustang is only accessible to a limited number of visitors. The former Kingdom of Lo (Mustang) is located North of the main Himalayan mountain range between snow-covered mountains in the East and Tibet in the West. It is a relatively wide and flattened mountain ridge to the North with passes over 4,600m. The dry and arid climate makes this landscape an impressive high desert. The villages are located in the valley at an altitude between 3,300m and 4,000m. On this route it is very possible that you will pass very important historical places. It is not surprising that an 800-year-old cave with religious engravings was recently discovered here. Mustang is famous for its salt trade in the Himalayas, which used to be run by traders with yaks at fairs in the past.
